Manufacturers braid Aramid Packing from high-quality DuPont Aramid/Kevlar fiber. It has a PTFE impregnation and a lubricant additive. It is highly durable. It shows good chemical resistance, high elasticity and very low cold flow. It is wear-resistant but may damage the shaft if not used properly. A least shaft hardness of 60 HRC is therefore recommended. Compared with other kinds of packing, it can resist more severe media and higher pressure. The packing is also lubricated with a silicone-based compound for a quick break-in.
It is a universal packing for pumps in all industries. This includes chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food, sugar, pulp and paper, and power industries. It is a durable packing that can withstand granular and abrasive applications. It is for superheated steam, solvents, liquefied gases, sugar syrups, and other abrasive fluids. For hot water applications, you can use it uncooled up to 160 °C.

We make our aramid packings from aramid yarn. They are often impregnated with a PTFE and graphite emulsion, then lubricated.

Like graphite, the aramid packings are resistant to impact and abrasion. You can make the aramid packings waterproof by combining them with other materials, like epoxy.
Manufacturers can use aramid fibers as a composite. It will keep its flexibility with rubber. Its high tensile modulus and low breakage elongation make it ideal for tough industrial uses. It also has high chemical resistance.
The aramid packing can handle more severe media and higher pressure than other braided packings. You can install it separately, or you can install it as end rings together with other packing. This combines different characteristics in packing ring seals.
Aramid packing is very resilient and consistent in volume. So, it avoids frequent gland adjustments. Aramid (Kevlar) has low thermal expansion at high temperatures. This reduces mechanical pressure against shaft sleeves, minimizing abrasion.
