The main advantages of aramid packings are their high strength and low weight. The aramid packings, like graphite, have a slightly negative thermal expansion axial coefficient. This means that their dimensions can maintain thermal stability.
We make our aramid packings from aramid yarn. They are often impregnated with a PTFE and/or graphite emulsion and then lubricated.
The strength and modulus of aramid packings are as high as the steel-like strength.
Like graphite, the aramid packings are resistant to impact and abrasion. Using other materials, like epoxy, manufacturers can make the aramid packings waterproof.
Manufacturers can use aramid fibers as a rubber composite. It retains its flexibility. Its high tensile modulus, low breakage elongation, and high chemical resistance make it the best choice for tough industrial uses.
The aramid packing can handle harsher media and higher pressure than other braided packings. You can install it as separate units or in combination with other packing as end rings. This combines different characteristics into seals: a packing ring seal.
Aramid packing is very resilient and consistent in volume. It avoids frequent gland adjustments. Aramid (Kevlar) has low thermal expansion under actual operating conditions. This reduces pressure against the shaft sleeves, minimizing abrasion.
